Why is music education important?

I hope this video helps the cause, but I have to say that I think it is really the wrong argument to justify music education because of it improving math performance or test scores. I often say that's like saying we should build houses because it increases our bricklaying skills. Math is a tool...a building block. Math is a means. Music is an end. Math is used to make music (or buildings, or telephones, or radios), not the other way around. Music has been important to every culture in the history of man, in all geographic areas. It's not a research-based instructional strategy.
