Hey Tina,
My first reaction is that it's a lot of money for a student instrument. I typically like yamaha xylo's but for a vibraphone I'd go with an Adams. Musser and Yamaha frames are not my favorite. I'd go with a field frame…
Hi Tom - I need some percussion advice. I'm looking to purchase vibes for Tavares MS - of course cost is an issue. I'm currently considering Yamaha YV-520 (smaller bars and with resonators only on essential accidentals), YV-1605 (full size…
My first reaction is that it's a lot of money for a student instrument. I typically like yamaha xylo's but for a vibraphone I'd go with an Adams. Musser and Yamaha frames are not my favorite. I'd go with a field frame just because it's much more institutionally built. Make sure it comes with a motor. Go to Percussion Source online and look at their line-up of vibes. They've got all three. I saw an Adams with field frame that appears to be a demo. I'd have no problem with that and it's under 3 grand.
I'm not advocating Percussion Source but you'll be able to compare them a little better.
I'm going to be in Nashville at the NAMM show this weekend and if I see something of interest. I'll let you know if I se something of interest.
You certainly intrigue me with your photo. I LOVE horses....animals period. I have 3 collies, and two cats. My step-daughter lives in Texas, and has about 20 dogs. She breeds and trains German Short-haired Pointers. She also has 3 horses.
I trust that things are going well for you. I was wondering if you had any effective warm-ups for beginning band students. I am instituting a practice log with all of my students, and I want them to include warm-ups as part of their time. However, I really do not have too many good warm ups for them. Let me know if you can help. Thanks!!

Tina,
Remember that you can use the chorale in a couple different ways.
1. You can have the drummer keep time through the entire piece. This is a good way to begin. I sometimes water it down for the second half by having them step 2 and 4 rather than playing a full 2 handed groove.
2. Play as written with the drummer switching to yarn and doing some tasty cymbal rolls and such.
Keep me posted.
