1-9-11 sax 057

Horns are like good friends. They are nice to have around. The F rotary trumpet and the clarinet belonged to my grandfather and father. The trumpet is well over a hundred years old and the clarinet was bought in France during WWI. The Benge flugel, the Olds marching trombone, and the French Besson ( Marvin Stamm) have Kanstuls handiwork in them. The Bach Strad cornet is an old staple and the Selmer Signet flute just for fun. My son shot the picture of Doc and I at intermission at a concert in Mpls. A gentleman of the highest order. One of those rare pleasures in life that will always be remembered.

Thanks Ed. I ought to have added that the King Voll Tru II tenor sax had only one previous owner.  The fellow now  in his 80's bought it new when he graduated from high school in 1934 and played it all of his life. The King baritone built like a tank  in 1954 had seen service in public schools. It has a seven and a half inch bell. There is nothing like a King for a full sonorous sound. After I retired I decided to spend time learning saxophones. There is hardly a better way to appreciate another family of instruments than to actually play them. Don
