I use the ipad/iphone in class as a supplemental educational tool and thought it would be interesting to share ideas of how teachers are utilizing the ipad/apps. "Apps help personalize instruction, address a variety of learning styles, and create highly interactive classrooms. That not only makes for a more engaging learning environment, it also results in performance improvements across the board."

So I thought I would start with just a few of the different ways I use the iPad. I have included links to the apps to some articles and videos illustrating how each app is used.

1) Perform Pro and For Score is a PDF Sheet Music Reader with Autoscroll, Metronome, and Recorder can import and manage thousands of scores with ease and arrange them in set lists in the order in which they desire to practice them or perform them during a recital or concert. Musicians can capture practice sessions or live performances with the built in audio recorder and then share the songs via email or export them to their iTunes library on their Mac or PC. iPad 2 Users can capture performances via video and post them to YouTube from the native Photo Roll app.

3) Apple TV is just plain cool. It allows Ipad 2 or Iphone 4 users to mirror anything on your screen and you can stream all your music, videos, and other content wirelessly from your ipad/iphone to your tv. http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/airplay.html
(You can record your students playing and immediately play it back on a large screen for evaluation)

4) Tempo and Tempo Advance is a wonderful metronome that does just about anything you would want a metronome to do including vibrating the beats.

6) Splashboard is a really cool app that turns any tv/projector into an interactive smartboard. http://www.splashtop.com/whiteboard (This is great if your school can't pay $5,000 for a smart board.)

9) Smartmusic Inbox

The SmartMusic Inbox is a free mobile and iPad app created for music educators who have a current subscription to SmartMusic interactive practice software.

The Inbox provides an alternative means to review, grade, and comment on student assignments any time, any place. Once each assignment is graded, it disappears from the Inbox.

10) The Virtual Sheet Music application allows iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad owners to enjoy the Virtual Sheet Music catalog on the go. Users can download digital sheet music and play it off-line as well as listen to and download thousands of MP3 audio files included for any item in the catalog.
