For music educators - By music educators
I was wondering, how many of you run summer music programs? If you do, how do you format it? Do you bring in paid clinicians, former students, current students in upper grades?? Do you charge students for summer instruction. My sixth grade beginning band is going to almost double next year and I am feeling the need to get as many of them as possible started before school starts. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

Growing a local summer program would certainly be a worthwhile venture, especially in an area where none exists. If there is a summer program nearby, I'd encourage kids to participate and see if I couldn't assist in some way. If you want to go it alone in your school, I'd start small with morning lessons and perhaps a band, if enough students show interest.
