Fellow Directors,

As you begin planning for next year, take a minute to think about leadership training.  Almost all High School Bands and more and more Middle School bands use some form of Officer system to let kids help you run your band.  One of the reasons that Band Directors are so successful as teachers is because we teach by doing, not by telling!  Our kids don't know their scales because we've lectured to them.  And yet many directors will take a group of students and place them in a position where they have enormous influence over the success or failure of their program and either give them no training at all, or use a lecture, book or video approach to "teach" them how to be leaders.  Team Building, Communication, Goal Setting, Responsibility. . . .your best kids can all tell you that these things are important and define them for you, but without learning and practicing these skills, they will not be effective leaders.  Along with being a Band Director, I have been doing activity-based leadership training for over 10 years for bands and organizations in Florida.  I'm attaching a flyer with more detailed information.  Every workshop I do is customized to that Band Program and takes place at your school or facility.  I would love to help you develop the leaders that you want to influence the future of your band program!!
